About Wanaka
Wanaka is an all seasons resort where there are a host of activities
for everyone.
Rivers and Lake – Lake Wanaka hosts hundreds
of scenic beaches and several islands. Surrounded by towering mountains,
Lake Wanaka is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful lakes.
Trout and salmon are prominent in the lake and can be found in the
rivers flowing into it as well. There are several other lakes nearby
such as Lakes Hawea and Wakitipu. Swimming and water sports in summer
are a common sight.
Weather – Wanaka has a diverse climate,
it has a dry heat in summer and often snows in winter. The summer
months of November-March can range in temperature from 18-30 degrees
Celsius. In the winter months of April-October, temperatures range
from 0-16 degrees Celsius.
Adventure – Wanaka is renowned for it’s
adventure and recreational activities. Jet boating, paragliding,
river canyoning, skydiving, horse trekking, mountain biking and
walking tracks are all popular past times while staying in Wanaka.
In winter, Wanaka becomes a ski resort as it features two well-known
ski fields - Treble Cone and Cardrona, both within a 20 minute drive
of the house.
Mt Aspiring National Park – Wanaka is the
gateway to spectacular Mt Aspiring National Park. There are several
walks, catering for diverse abilities and fitness levels, whether
it is a two hour or several days walk in forest and glacial terrain.
Wanaka is a holiday town and therefore it caters for those who
wish to relax. Golf and fly-fishing are common past times. Puzzling
World, Fighter Pilots Museum and various Vineyards are all to be
found in the nearby area.
The township also hosts a theatre, shops and plenty of bars, cafes
and restaurants. |
